Execute Strategy Effectively
In a leading Learning & Development magazine, a Vice President of Global Learning was quoted to say "We have to be able to create learning and development programs that drive strategy execution".
She hit the nail on the head! Executing strategy effectively is job #1 for everyone in a company. Which implies that if we can get everyone in a business to be skilled at that then the impact on business results will be huge.
So when constructing learning programs, ask yourself whether all the program content is focused towards building that single most important skill set. Of course, this begs the question, What are the competencies that work together to enable a person to be good at executing strategy?
In my opinion, there are these competency categories:
1. Ability to understand and analyze your own company's metrics.
2. Ability to understand and interpret data and information about your customers (external and internal).
3. Ability to understand and interpret data and information about your competitors.
4. Ability to synthesize all that data to help you make better decisions.
5. Ability to make tactical decisions that are aligned with the strategies.
Perhaps there are more, but the above five are central to being good at executing strategy.
Our simulations will help immensely in this regard.
